Cryptostylis subulataThis evergreen terrestrial orchid grows in open forest around Brisbane, often in swampy areas. When not in flower, this orchid consists of one or more green leaves growing vertically from the ground to about 20cm by 3cm. The leaf is very distinctive once learned. The flower stem grows to about 60cm with up to a dozen flowers, each facing the green stem. The labellum is green and red purple about 30mm long with thin green sepals and petals. The two dark purple ridges ending with a large purple callus give this flower a distinctive appearance.
