Pterostylis baptistiiThis terrestrial orchid grows in moist area of open forests and rainforest verges around Brisbane. It is locally common and will form large colonies of plants where the conditions are right. This is our largest greenhood, but the flowers do not stand out being green and can easily be missed. This orchid forms a rosette with up to 8 stalked leaves to 6 by 2 cm. The flower stem grows to about 40cm with the flower body to about 4cm. The labellum protrudes above the sinus and is distinctly pinched at the tip. This orchid can be easily identified by its large flower size, the large pouch below the sinus, backswept lateral sepals and pinched tip to the labellum. |
